We asked our brand ambassadors some questions, as we wanted to interview each one of them and each week focus our attention on one of our great valuable resources as we prepare for this years Shes Connected Conference. You can expect more interviews done with our brand ambassadors and advisors alike.
This week we feature: Sober Julie
1. Tell us about you YOU! Your family, where you live, etc.
I have been married to the most amazing (patient) man in the world for almost 10 years and we have 2 beautiful, brilliant and oh-so challenging daughters. We live with our boxer, Miss Cocoa Bean in Orangeville, Ontario.
2. How long have you been blogging? When and Why did you start?
I began blogging in Nov/10 in order to journal my life, I had been involved in a car accident and my memory was compromised. It was actually after looking through photos taken in the 6 months since the accident that I realized I didn’t remember much of the time I had spent with my family. I began blogging hoping to retain my memories of family time and the first year of my sobriety.
3. What role does blogging play in your life; fun, extra income, main source of income, journaling, memories, etc.
Although blogging began as an outlet and source for storing my memories it has become much more. Blogging provides me with a creative outlet where I can exercise my brain and share things that inspire me with others. When I write I put myself out there, sharing my dark places along with my happiness with the world. It’s an outlet where I’ve found an ability to connect and help others while helping myself.
4. What role has social media played in your life?
Social media is an amazing way to connect with people whom you normally couldn’t. As I say I am thinking of an amazing woman from Australia I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know, she is also in recovery and her friendship has strengthened my resolve. Personally chronic pain often finds me unable to go out and socialize in the normal way, social media provides a venue for that.
5. Tell us about your “Brand”.
Sober Julie is my brand, it was not something that happened accidentally…..I took time to watch the blogiverse and social media before I launched my brand into the main stream audience. I write from the heart, I present my journey with raw honesty in what I hope is a humorous manner. I challenge others to reflect upon their lives and hope to provide inspiration which can help them to engage in it wholeheartedly NOW.
6. How many SCCTO have you attend? Was the conference what you expected it to be? Why?
I attended SCCTO last year, it was my first conference and I didn’t really know what to expect. I had the opportunity to connect with many bloggers whom I’d interacted with online in the months leading up to it. The conference allowed me to meet the Brands face to face and establish relationships in person. It far exceeded any expectations I had.
7. What was your favourite part of the conference?
What was your favourite booth and why? My favorite part of the conference was connecting with people directly, this happened in the hallways, at booths and at evening events. There were many booths I enjoyed but I’d have to say I loved singing Careoke in the Ford Lounge.
8. What was your most memorable moment from SCCTO?
Toshiba had given me a tablet to test drive throughout the conference and once I returned to my room I realized I had it in my purse. The shock I felt at the moment was horrible but the laughter of my 3 blogger roommates and Toshiba’s response to my tweet are my fav memories.
9. Did you continue your relationship on social media with other attendees? Brands?
I have definitely kept up relationships with both bloggers and brands I met at SCCTO. I often work in conjunction with the bloggers and brands.
10. Why are you proud to be this year’s SCCTO Brand Ambassador? What are you looking forward to this year?
Since the SCCTO conference I’ve had the opportunity to work with ShesConnected on some projects but being chosen as a Conference Ambassador is truly an honor. ShesConnected is a brand that provides opportunities for women to grow their businesses and deals in an above board, direct manner which women can use to their advantage if they choose. I’m certainly proud to be representing such a strong, dynamic brand!

“In my role as a digital marketer, the ShesConnected Conference offers me the opportunity to connect with and engage influencers and opinion leaders that is simply unparalleled. Our whole team received a warm welcome from the ShesConnected community and enjoyed the opportunity to forge relationships with these women who have such tremendous influence with the modern consumer. In my role as a panelist at the conference, I was amazed, humbled, and inspired by the passion and enthusiasm of the delegates. The ShesConnected Conference offers terrific ROR (return on relationships) and is definitely one not to be missed!”

When I was “young” shh please don’t tell anyone that I’m admitting to feeling pretty ancient today both Hubby and I craved cars that were all flash. We were after style and speed and not much else. Now that I’m a Mama, I have to admit I still want style and speed, but you know what else? I want safety too. Nothing brought this home more then a couple of weeks ago when we were taking a drive through the countryside to go and visit my folks. We ended up here…
That car pulled over there on the side of the road? That’s mine. Stranded at the side of the deserted country road. About half way through our trip…somewhere between NoWheresVille and and HicksVille we blew a tire. Loudly.
This my friends is not a fun experience. Thankfully, Hubby is an excellent driver, was not speeding, and was able to safely get our vehicle and his entire family safely to the side of the road without incident. He made a quick call to Ford Roadside Assistance while I called my Daddy. Yah, don’t judge, it’s what I did.
Ironically we were on our way to Thanksgiving and suddenly I had all kinds of new things to be thankful for. I was thankful for my dear Hubby’s skilful driving. I was thankful for cell phones and to the tow truck driver who arrived so quickly. I was thankful for the kindness of strangers! Look at the nice people who stopped on the way to their Thanksgiving’s to see if we were okay!
I am also thankful for this. Ingenuity. While at the ShesConnected Conference in Toronto I was introduced to the coolest new feature created by Ford. It’s called MyKey™ and is a feature designed to help parents encourage teenagers to drive safely. This new technology gives you the ability to designate a key and set it up to operate a variety of special features to help keep your babies safe. MyKey™ can restrict the vehicle’s top speed, limit the entertainment system’s volume, and it can be set to give you a warning when the fuel tank reaches 120 kilometres to empty! MyKey™ also lets you select speed alert chimes; and you can set the Belt-Minder™ System to chime until the safety belt is buckled.
I already have nieces and nephews on the road, and my BlueEyed Girl will be driving in a little over 3 years! I think a system like MyKey™ could save lives. Thanks Ford, every little bit helps.
So now that my priorities have changed, I’ll admit it, I’m thankful for safety features. I may be getting older, but I’m pretty sure I’m also getting smarter.

Upon the conclusion of the second annual ShesConnected Conference it continues to be apparent that no matter what you call them, bloggers mommy bloggers or digital women, this segment of bloggers has a significant level of influence when it comes to your brand.
Creating relationships with these digital women is critical. Learning about them and understanding how to work with them is essential for all brands today. ShesConnected believes that through ongoing engagement, brands can build meaningful connections with some of the most influential and well connected digital women in Canada.
This year we hosted over 200 highly connected, pre-selected women to participate in our two day conference. Our sponsors participated in an amazing expo area, where they were able to engage directly with these influencers. We also generated an impressive 53,000 posts using the #SCCTO hashtag from July –October. Many of our sponsors trended during our pre-event twitter parties, further re-enforcing the influence of our bloggers. And we are excited to continue the dialogue into November with our final conference related Twitter party.
I hope that this is just the beginning of your relationship with these bloggers. Now that we’ve made the introduction, we hope that you will continue to work to develop your connections and expand your relationship with the even larger blogging universe.
Thanks to all the brands who worked with us and who have shown the digital women just how important they are to brands like yours! We look forward to working with you again in 2012!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ShesConnected.com hosting 200 savvy, influential digital Canadian women for the ShesConnected Conference
(Toronto, ON) September 14, 2011 – The second annual ShesConnected Conference, taking place September 29 to 30, 2011 at Toronto’s Sheraton Centre, is expected to include digitally-savvy and influential Canadian women, as well as representatives from top national and international brands and agencies.
In true ShesConnected style – a much anticipated, heartily promoted and carefully orchestrated Twitter Party brought together over 400 women and 17 brands; allowing them to connect and learn from each other over tweets.
The first ShesConnected Conference Twitter Party was scheduled back in July, introducing brands and digital women and allowing them to kick off the conversation. We then followed up with a second twitter party in August which resulted in even more buzz, conversations and connections between the two. So why did we start conversations months before the conference?
We want to build relationships. Who wouldn’t want to get to know someone before they meet them “IRL”? By engaging brands and digital women in a friendly and relaxed – yet organized – fashion, it puts them at ease and gives them confidence for when they meet face to face at the conference. And it doesn’t stop there… look for our follow up Twitter Party AFTER the conference!
