One of my most unforgettable experiences was taking part in the 2018 Career Women’s Conference. A friend of mine invited me to speak at this event, given that she knew how hard I worked to manage my marketing business. I accepted her invitation at once, but I could not think of anything to talk about. I had never been a guest speaker before; I only had speeches in front of my employees, and even those were short. So, I went there without a plan.
I know what you might be thinking right now. “Oh no! That must have been a disaster!” Well, in the beginning, it was because I felt like a fish out of water. However, as I got to listen to other speakers, I understood what I had to emphasize: why unplugging matters even for career women.
You Don’t Want Work To Become Work
When people say that work does not feel like work when you enjoy it, that is true. That’s what I have been experiencing all these years. Despite that, the situation may seem drab if all you do is stay on your desk for more than eight hours daily. You need to rest at least once or twice a week and spend time with your family so that you can recharge yourself.
Technology Does Not Help With Your Restlessness
Technology is comparable to a double-edged sword. Often, it helps you get your job done and stay up-to-date with current events. Other times, however, it prevents you from relaxing. The latter is the reason why you should try to detach yourself from gadgets as much as you can.
You Need To Avoid Burnout
The worst-case scenario is that having too much work extinguishes your passion for your job. That is a circumstance that you need to avoid at all costs. It is rare for anyone to deal with burnout and return to work afterward—most of them move on and seek another path.
In The End
The world won’t stop revolving if you take a break for a day or two. In reality, the holiday may do you more good than harm, considering stressors won’t pile up in your system.
